WOYZECK

Glad Teater’s Woyzeck is a physical performance in which five performers, using an almost flesh-like movement language, depict the recurring power struggles of human-animal instincts.

With the love story between Woyzeck and Marie as a guiding thread, the characters are repeatedly thrown into a circular dance of death, alternately desiring, controlling, challenging, and being destroyed—a cycle enforced by civilization and human drives beyond anyone’s control.

In this universe of helplessness, words have lost their meaning. Through strong choreographic imagery, the audience witnesses murder, humiliation, and chaos—but also the poetry of hope, the warmth of love, and the yearning for freedom.

“Deeply original, wordless production with Glad Teater’s skilled and daring performers, who manage to make a strong impression in Jesper Michelsen’s brilliant staging…one of Glad Teater’s greatest artistic triumphs. Three quarters of an incomparably choreographed war chaos that should not be missed.”

“Relentless storytelling… Now and then there is a chance for a touch of tenderness, but the shame and humiliation cannot be washed away, and no one helps the oppressed…The five performers in Glad Teater’s production carry the story with great assurance.”
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ – Knud Cornelius, Frederiksborg Amts Avis

“Wild, insane, fearless, and powerful…a caustic bath of emotions…persistent and utterly fearless. All words are reduced to a dark symphony of color, skillfully directed by Jesper Michelsen and sweeping choreographed by Kasper Ravnhøj. Johan Kølkjær created the dark garrison-like set. Music and sound design by Rune Abel work tightly with John Ivar Venned’s lighting design. In such a visual production, light and sound become the breath of the story. Everything is embodied with intensity by the five actors from Glad Teater.”
